A Medium of Reductions

(From the movie: Life and Liberty for all who Believe:)
Paul Weyrich on bring the Gospel into the political and simplifying the Message: "Ultimately everything can be reduced to right and wrong. Everything."

Last Thursday I went to a Forum on the Status of Arab Women put on by the Network of Arab American Professionals. In his opening remarks, the moderator, Dr. Abderrahim Foukara, Washington Bureau Chief of Al-Jazeera Arabic pointed out the danger of simplification for the sake of journalistic economy of style. By saying "Arab women" or "Western women," one makes a statement about Moroccan women and Iraqi women and French women and American women at the same time. Because of journalism's need for an economy of style, this medium may exert a strong influence on the message of its content.
